Clinical cases

Brachycephalic syndrome surgery

Female Pug

Patient, Pug with stenosis of the nostrils and elongated palate that is introduced into the epiglottis obstructing the airway.

For the resection of hard tissue of the nostrils, the use of bipolar energy is not recommended, however it is highly recommended to coagulate the vessels as the cold scalpel is used.
The surgeon uses a scalpel to perform the resection of the nostrils, as bleeding occurs, immediate hemostasis is achieved by applying bipolar radiofrequency plasma energy.
The procedure is performed quickly thanks to the bleeding control offered by the bipolar device.
Regarding staphylectomy, it is performed by coagulating and sealing the tissue by applying the same bipolar forceps. It is not necessary to use sutures and there is no postoperative bleeding.
The use of this technology considerably reduces surgical times.

Tumor resection

Oncologic surgery

Canine Patient, Poodle Breed, Female, 10 years old.

A mass located in the external gingiva, left maxillary area, was extracted. The tumor was pedunculated, nodular in appearance, friable, with defined edges, approximately 6 cm x 2 cm x 2 cm in size.
For the extraction, a bipolar radiofrequency coagulation forceps was first used, used in coagulation level 3, output voltage 76. To coagulate the remaining and peritumoral tissue, a cutting and ablation radiofrequency probe was used, used in 5 cutting (voltage 197) and 4 coagulation (voltage 82).
The only hemorrhage recorded was when using the scissors to perform divulsion and cutting of a thicker portion of tissue. This hemorrhage was controlled with the ablation probe.
Positive visible immediate results. No hemorrhages were recorded in the immediate post-surgical period.
